WOMAN KILLED TRYING TO STOP RIG

A 49-year-old woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when she was run over by an unoccupied tractor-trailer that rolled down her driveway, state police in Wellsville reported.

The accident occurred shortly before 4:40 p.m. at a private resident on Birdsall-Garwood Road.

A trooper said the rig was parked at the top of a driveway. The victim, Darlene Lacy, was at a barn on the property when her 8-year-old grandson told her the truck was rolling down the driveway, toward the road.

Mrs. Lacy ran in front of the truck and tried to get in the driver's side door of the cab, but slipped and was run over by the driver's side rear tandem wheels. Her grandson called 911, the trooper said.

Mrs. Lacy was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was taken to the Monroe County medical examiner's office. Her husband, who is a trucker, is on the road somewhere in Ohio, the trooper said; other relatives were notified.

The rig came to a stop when it rolled into a small ditch.
