William L. Watson, a retired contractor who also operated three area ski shops, died Monday (Aug. 24, 1998) in Sarasota, Fla., where he had lived since 1980. He was 82.

Born in Hamilton, Ont., he was the founder and former owner of William L. Watson Co., a Kenmore construction business that installed municipal swimming pools, including the Belmont YMCA pool, and did road and bridge work for 35 years.

Watson, formerly of Kenmore, still maintained a summer home in Ellicottville, where he once owned two ski shops at Holiday Valley. He also had owned a ski shop in Buffalo.

He retired nine years ago.

Survivors include his wife, the former Eileen Fowler; a daughter, Patricia Dankert of Otto; a son, William W. of the City of Tonawanda; a brother, James of Costa Rica; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be private.
