JUVENILE VIOLENCE -- Forensic psychologist Charles Patrick Ewing will kick off the "UB at Sunrise" breakfast series for the 1998-99 academic year with a discussion of "Preventing and Responding to Violence in Our Schools" at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 16 in the Center for Tomorrow at the University at Buffalo North Campus.
Ewing, a professor of law and adjunct professor of psychology at UB and an expert on juvenile violence, is the author of "Kids Who Kill," which predicted that juvenile homicide would reach epidemic proportions by the end of the Cost of the lecture and full breakfast is $10 for UB Alumni Association members and $12 for the general public. A BENEFIT will be held Sept. 26 for Jeromy Stacey, the 9-year-old boy whose both arms and several toes were amputated after he came in contact with 34,000 volts of electricity Aug. 1 at his home in Cheektowaga. The benefit is set for 2 p.m. to midnight in the Spring Brook Fire Company Recreation Hall, 31 Pound Road (at Seneca Street), Elma.
Jeromy, the nephew of Ed Sauer, chief of Spring Brook Fire Company, and Kevin Sauer, captain of Jamison Road Fire Company, is being treated in the Shrine Burn Hospital in Cincinnati and could be there for up to one year.
His uncles, who are planning the benefit, report that Jeromy appears to be in good spirits but that he is going to need a lot of support to help him recover.
