The Marilla Town Board Tuesday authorized Supervisor John Foss to borrow $30,000 from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to help the Marilla Free Library install a bathroom in the basement that is accessible to the disabled.

The Library Association also has a $25,000 bequest from the estate of Mildred Monchow, which will be used toward renovating the basement storage area. Plans call for shelving, a conference room, a small kitchenette for employees, a new furnace, duct work, and fire alarm system.

Councilman Rich Ferber said the renovations would double the usable space of the building erected in 1935 as a Works Progress Administration project.

Foss said the HUD loan will carry 2.5 percent interest and is payable over 10 years.
