DEATH AT CUBA CHEESE STILL PROBED

Cuba police are continuing their investigation into a fatal accident Monday at the Cuba Cheese factory.

Chief Mark Bierman said Zachary T. Allen, 20, of 129 Pine St., Wellsville, was apparently electrocuted in the plant's ultrafiltration room. Allen apparently came into contact with a source of electrical power while standing on a wet floor changing a filter, said Bierman.

He said the accident happened at about 1:30 p.m., and Allen was discovered later by another employee who walked into the room.

He was taken to Olean General Hospital in a Cuba police ambulance and pronounced dead there at 3:03 p.m., said Bierman.

He said Allen had worked at the Cuba Cheese plant on Haskell Road, outside the village, since March.

An autopsy was performed in the Olean hospital Monday, but Bierman said a formal cause-of-death ruling will not be made until its results are complete.
