The City of Schenectady must pay the owners of two strip clubs $30,000 for violating their constitutional rights during police raids, a jury has decided.
The city was ordered Monday by a U.S. District Court jury to pay restitution to Anthony DeMaria Jr., manager of Goldfingers Gentlemen's Club, and James and Annie Segrue, owners of the Toy Box. The city has also agreed to pay an additional $21,000 to seven dancers arrested during the raids.
Mayor Al Jurczynski, who was also named in the suit, was cleared of any wrongdoing.
Schenectady is considering an anti-nudity zoning law similar to the one passed in New York City earlier this year. New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has used the measure to close several strip clubs located near residential areas or schools.
The Schenectady clubs remain open.
