A 37-year-old woman was charged with vehicular manslaughter Tuesday after the car she was driving allegedly struck and killed an elderly woman in an alcohol-related accident, Detective Lt. Frank Granto said.

Catherine Ricotta, 88, of 2212 Grand Ave. was pronounced dead in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center's emergency room at 4:08 p.m., apparently from multiple internal injuries. She was injured at 3:15 p.m. when a car pinned her against the front wall and door of the Wilson Farms Store at Pine Avenue and 29th Street, Granto said.

The driver, Cathie A. Henn, 37, of 511 Hyde Park Blvd., Apartment 2, also was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Granto said the accident occurred when Ms. Henn, sitting in the passenger seat of a car of the store's parking lot, saw a parking space open up in front of the store. Steering the car from the passenger seat, she tried to maneuver into the new parking spot but propelled the car over a cement curb in front of the store and struck Mrs. Ricotta as she exited the business, Granto said.

Ms. Henn is scheduled to be arraigned in City Court today.
