The Partnership for Wellness forum, scheduled for Tuesday in the Amherst Central Schools, will focus on the use of community resources to help students maintain their health and meet new standards.
Robert M. Bennett, president of the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County and a member of the state Board of Regents, will be the keynote speaker at the event, to be held in conjunction with a district staff development day. Amherst teachers and staff from private schools in the district are invited to the forum, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Amherst Middle School,
55 Kings Highway.
Bennett will discuss building partnerships with community agencies, while other speakers will talk about eating disorders, food allergies, sports injuries, smoking prevention, alcohol and substance abuse, sexual issues, emergency situations, domestic violence, mental health issues and other topics.
There also will be cholesterol screening and body-fat testing by Independent Health, blood pressure screening by the Erie County Health Department, and an American Red Cross blood drive.
