Anita J. Marchetti, a retired sales clerk who worked at several local department stores, died Monday (Aug. 24, 1998) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a lengthy illness. She was 89.
Mrs. Marchetti had been a resident of Crestwood Health Care Center in Wheatfield and prior to that lived on 81st Street.
She was born Anita Grazzini in Portland, Ore., where she attended school. She married Nello Marchetti in Carbondale, Pa., in 1928, and they moved to Niagara Falls after their marriage.
Mrs. Marchetti worked as a sales clerk at the former Niagara Importing on Pine Avenue from the early 1940s to 1968 and then as a sales clerk in the furniture department at the former Beirs Department Stores on Falls and Second streets and at the Rainbow Mall until her retirement in 1988.
She enjoyed crocheting afghans for her family and friends as well as spending time with her friends, playing cards and socializing.
Her husband died in 1972.
Mrs. Marchetti is survived by three sons, Dario P. of Newport News, Va., Richard T. of Lockport and Elio P.; a sister, Nella McAuley; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1055 Military Road, after prayers at 9:45 in M.J. Colucci and Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
