NIAGARA FALLS -- Southwestern Niagara County was hardest hit by brief but heavy thunderstorms, strong winds and driving rain that struck about 11 p.m. Monday.

In Niagara Falls, a store caught fire at 22nd and Falls streets. Further details were unavailable. City firefighters also were tending to a broken natural gas main on Maple Avenue near Lewiston Road early today.

And in the Town of Niagara, a tree crushed the porch of a mobile home in Expressway Village. Lewiston Police said trees were reported down near the corner of Hyde Park Boulevard and
Lewiston Road.

In Wheatfield, Walmore Road between Lockport Road and Niagara Falls Boulevard was closed to traffic, as was Shawnee Road between Loveland and Slusaric roads. In both cases, downed wires were the problem.
