Summer review sessions for Cheektowaga Central School students retaking either the Regents earth science or Course I math exams showed good results, school officials said Monday night.
The district established the August review sessions -- held over eight days, each lasting 1 1/2 hours -- after poor student performance on the two
Regents exams in June.
The review sessions, however, were well attended and seemed helpful for students who were retaking the exams this month, Superintendent Leslie B. Lewis said during a meeting of the School Board
Of the 40 students who had to take the Course I math exam again, about 30 passed with a 65 or higher, Lewis said.
Results of earth science exams were a little more frustrating, he said. Of the roughly 70 taking the earth science exam again, 26 passed with a 65 or higher. About 30 students came within four points of passing, Lewis added.
These type of review classes likely will be used again to help students achieve higher
academic standards, Lewis said.
