The Newstead Town Board Monday night rescinded a recently adopted lateral water-line restriction policy and then adopted a new one for a new water district.
The earlier policy had been adopted -- after a suggestion from state officials -- to restrict development on land in the town's Agricultural District that is currently involved in farming.
The new policy covers all property in the district that is also contained in a county agricultural district and currently actively farming. State officials had asked that the policy be extended to everyone connecting to the district -- regardless of the lane use -- to avoid conflicts between neighbors.
The proposed district would be located in the town's Agricultural District from the Alden town line to Route 5; South Newstead Road to the Genesee County line; Buell Street, Cummings Road and Clarence Center Road.
Officials earlier expressed concern that forming the district and running water lines through portions of the town would increase development and make it more difficult to preserve farmland.
