Literacy Volunteers of North Tonawanda has a goal: to eliminate illiteracy in the Tonawandas.

The organization trains volunteers to teach reading, writing, and English as a second language, to adults.

Literacy Volunteers offers twice-yearly tutor training workshops.

The next scheduled nine-session class runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 15 to Nov. 10, in the North Tonawanda Public Library, 505 Meadow Drive. There's a $25 fee.

Currently, more than 60 people aged 19 to 68 are being tutored in basic reading or English as a second language.

For more information, or to register for the tutor training workshop, call Literacy Volunteers at 693-4132.
