Dr. William C. Niesen of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., a former Niagara Falls urologist, died Sunday (Aug. 23, 1998) in St. Mary's Hospital, West Palm Beach, Fla., after a year's illness. He was 78.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Canisius College and the University at Buffalo Medical School.
He served with the Army as a major during World War II.
Niesen was chief of urology at Buffalo's Veterans Hospital before entering private practice in Niagara Falls. A member of the Royal College of Surgeons of the United Kingdom, he also maintained an office in Niagara Falls, Ont., for several years.
He was chief of the medical staff and chief of urology at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston. He also was consulting urologist at Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara Falls, Ont.
He was an assistant clinical professor of urology at the University at Buffalo Medical School.
A past president of the Buffalo Urology Society and the Health Association of Niagara County, he also was a member of the Niagara County Medical Society and the Palm Beach Medical Society.
He was a member of the Old Port Cove Yacht Club and a former member of the Niagara Falls Country Club and the Youngstown Yacht Club.
He moved from Lewiston to Florida about 10 years ago.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Jean Cooke; a daughter, Nancy Eddy of Palm Beach Gardens; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be private.
