Fifteen chickens died Monday when flames destroyed a large barn at Route 60 and Palm Road.

Fluvanna Fire Chief Randy Crist said firefighters were called out at about 2:45 a.m. and spent several hours on the scene. "The structure was fully involved," Crist said. A boat stored nearby was destroyed, and there was paint damage to three parked cars. No one was injured.

Fluvanna was assisted by firefighters from Gerry, Sinclairville, Ellery Center and Ashville. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Chautauqua County fire investigators also were called in to look for the cause of a blaze that destroyed a vacant house at Route 380 and Waterman Road in Stockton. That alarm was called in just after 1 a.m.
