NEWFANE TEEN CHARGED WITH MENACING MOTHER

A teen-ager was arrested Sunday morning after jabbing a large knife at his mother through a screen door, Deputy Donald H.
Piedmont said.

Lee E. Burton, 17, of 6075 Corwin Ave. was charged with second-degree menacing after the 7:55 a.m. incident.

Piedmont said Burton's mother Paula, 39, told him Lee became enraged when she refused to give him the car keys. He threw things about the house as he looked for the keys, finally storming outside.

Piedmont said Burton threatened to slash his mother's car tires with the knife, and then poked it at her through the screen as he threatened to kill her. He then drove off with a friend.

As Piedmont was investigating the case at the Burton home, Lee called twice, and the caller identification screen indicated the calls were coming from a pay phone at Soles Bros., a gas station and convenience store on Main Street. Piedmont said he drove there and the friend pointed out an alley where Burton was found hiding behind a boat.
