Unifrax Corp., a manufacturer of high-temperature ceramic fiber insulation products, has received a $250,000 state grant to help make a plant in Sanborn more energy efficient.
William P. Kelly, president and chief executive officer of Unifrax, said the $500,000 project will help the company to lower its operating costs and develop new products.
He praised the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority for entering into a partnership with the company. "We will be able to improve and expand our business into areas that would have uneconomical without NYSERDA's help," he said.
The public-benefit corporation helps to develop technologies that businesses and municipalities can use to save energy and reduce emissions.
The products manufactured by Niagara Falls-headquartered Unifrax are used in the automotive, construction, aerospace and glass industries.
The company also has manufacturing facilities in Tonawanda, Amherst and Indiana.
It employs about 250 people in Western New York and another 150 employees at out-of-state facilities.
