Nancy H. Sloan, 75, a former resident of Buffalo and the Town of Tonawanda, died Saturday (Aug. 22, 1998) in West Meade Nursing Home, Nashville, Tenn., following a lengthy illness.
The former Nancy Higdon was born and raised in Nashville. After graduating from St. Cecilia's Academy there, she was employed by the classification center of the Army Air Forces. When the Nashville location closed, she was offered an opportunity to transfer to Plattsburgh. She moved to Buffalo shortly thereafter and married James H. Sloan in 1947. He died in 1987.
Mrs. Sloan was a secretary at Buffalo General Hospital for about 10 years before her retirement. She also worked for the telephone company in Buffalo. She moved back to Nashville last year, following the death of her son, James Gatlin Sloan.
Mrs. Sloan was a member of St. Amelia's Church, Town of Tonawanda. She enjoyed reading and traveling.
Survivors include a sister, Barbara Higdon Geldrich of Nashville, and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Henry's Catholic Church, Nashville. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nashville.[hjnes]
