Millard E. "Gene" Austin, 80, a retired truck driver and veteran of World War II, died Friday (Aug. 21, 1998) in his home after a long illness.
The Rushford native was a truck driver for the Allegany County Department of Public Works until his retirement in 1983. Before that, he worked at Cuba Cylinder Gas and the U.S. Postal Service in Rushford.
Austin served with the Navy in World War II.
He was a member of the Rushford Town Board, a past master of Joseph Enos Masonic Lodge in Rushford, and a member of the Rushford Labor Day Association. He was a member of Rushford United Methodist Church and attended Arcade United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Helen Hadvabne; four sons, LaRue of Houghton, Millard Jr. of Rushford, Craig of Friendship and Kevin; a daughter, Corrine Pazder of East Aurora; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St.. Burial will be in White Cemetery, Rushford.[hjnes]
