Jean H. Porter, 76, of Hartland Road, retired director of educational communications and librarian at the Orleans-Niagara Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Medina, died unexpectedly Thursday (Aug. 20, 1998) at her summer home in Brantingham Lake.
A native of Buffalo, she retired in 1978 and held a similar position at the BOCES complex in Niagara County. She also formerly was a librarian in Newfane, Lyndonville, and Castile schools.
A member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Middleport, and the organist there for 15 years.
Mrs. Porter was a past president of the New York State Library Association. She was a member of the New York State Teachers Association and served as president of the Niagara-Orleans Association of School Librarians.
She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo and did graduate work there and at Geneseo State College in library studies and media technology. A member of Delta Kappa Gamma, in 1996 she attended the 50th anniversary of her class at the University of Buffalo.
She and her husband, Charles H., retired superintendent of the Royalton-Hartland Central School District, lived in Gasport for 52 years. They spent the winter months in Clearwater, Fla.
Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Charles of Poughkeepsie, and twin granddaughters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main St. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery.[shrwd]
