A 17-year-old who impregnated his 12-year-old sister could face a life sentence on a first-degree sex charge, but prosecutors are willing to offer him a break.
Macomb County Prosecutor Carl Marlinga has offered to allow the teen-ager to plead guilty to a misdemeanor that carries a two-year prison sentence but doesn't require automatic deportation to his native India. It also would spare the sister from having to testify. That's "fair and just according to my sense of justice," Marlinga said after the teen-ager's arraignment Wednesday.
The girl, who had a late-term abortion last month, told prosecutors she doesn't want her brother jailed but that the case "not be swept under the rug," Marlinga said.
