Services for Patrick C. Whitehead, 20, of the Town of Hamburg, an Erie Community College student, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Cleveland Heights Christian Church, 4774 Union Road, Cheektowaga.
Whitehead, a native of Lansing, Mich., was killed shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 16, 1998) when he was struck by a Chicago-bound Amtrak train on Conrail tracks near the Lake View Road crossing in Hamburg.
A graduate of Kingsford High School in Iron Mountain, Mich., he was a first-year business administration student at ECC, where his mother, Jill Carter Barrile, a college librarian and a department chairwoman and his stepfather, Joseph Barrile, is a faculty department chairman.
Whitehead was employed by Crawdaddy's Restaurant in Buffalo as a busboy and cashier and by the Amateur Trapshooting Association in Vandalia, Ohio.
In January, he completed the Lake View Volunteer Fire Department's Explorer/Firefighter Apprentice Program.
Survivors also include his father, Dr. Dennis C., and stepmother, Connie Foltz Whitehead, both of Iron Mountain; three stepsisters, Veronica and Lana, both of Iron Mountain, and Janet Barrile of the Town of Hamburg; two stepbrothers, Gabriel and Zachary, both of Iron Mountain; two grandmothers, Jane Carter of Richfield and Sarah Whitehead of Michigan; and his stepgrandparents, James and Rose Barrile of Buffalo, and Fred and Arlene Foltz of Michigan.
