MISSING BINGO MONEY PROBED IN HARTLAND

Sheriff's investigators will be probing why $4,456 is missing from the Hartland Volunteer Fire Company's bingo account, Deputy Frank M. DiMatteo said Thursday.

Fire company President Dan. S. Hill told DiMatteo no money was deposited in the bingo account for any of the Tuesday night games from June 24 through Aug. 11. He said the Middleport office of Unit No. 1 Federal Credit Union informed him the deposits had not been made after a check drawn on the bingo account bounced.

Bingo bookkeeper Steve Palone told DiMatteo he last made a deposit on June 16. "He had gone back to work and was too busy," DiMatteo said Palone told him.

Bingo chairman John McAvoy told DiMatteo he wasn't making the deposits, and
assumed someone else was.
