Patrick Tyler, Democratic candidate for the 149th state Assembly district, has been endorsed by the Independence Party, gaining one of the ballot lines that had earlier been given to Republican incumbent Patricia McGee.

Mrs. McGee resigned from her Assembly seat Monday and is running unopposed for the 56th state Senate seat left vacant with the death of Jess Present.

Tyler said the additional party line should provide a boost to his campaign.

"I presented the issues that concern working families the most," he said. "We talked about cutting taxes, fighting for a world-class education for our children, creating good-paying jobs, and making sure that our families are safe."

Tyler is being challenged by Catharine Young, R-C-Olean, for the Assembly post.
