A recent front-page photo in The News showed a member of the Amherst Highway Department gathering mosquito larvae from water in abandoned tires in a wooded area near Wehrle Drive. Why not remove the tire, thus removing the mosquitoes' micro-habitat, something we can control? The puddle will go away -- the tire won't. Not for 1,000 years, anyway. The tire is just as easily carried out as the water sample, as long as the workers are there. Let's count and catch the tires instead of the mosquitoes.
