The Niagara Police Athletic League baseball team coached by Tom Penale, Bill Breene and Ernie Palmer went 6-1 and won the silver medal at the recent 16-under world series at Fort Myers, Fla. The team's only loss was a 12-1 defeat to Miami-Dade in the championship game.
Niagara batting leaders included David Zona (.450, Niagara Falls), Steve Webster (.384, Lockport), Dan DeNardo (.350, Lockport) and Justin Conte (.315, Niagara-Wheatfield). Pitchers Tim Slawek (Cheektowaga), Marty Bochinski (Maryvale) and Conte earned complete-game victories.
The squad also included John Adams, Andy Addesa, Chris Buczek, Jason Conte, Vince Girardo, Jason Haug, Nick Lowe, Jim Maciejewski, Daniel Morello, and Steve Penale.
