Danielle Steel has married for the fifth time in a ceremony as glamorous as any in her best-selling romance novels.
Ms. Steel, in a flowered gown trimmed with sable, married venture capitalist Tom Perkins on Friday under an arch of lavender roses and violets at her home overlooking San Francisco Bay.
Later, they cut into a wedding cake shaped like a yacht.
On Saturday, the newlyweds threw a dance attended by Mayor Willie Brown, Rupert Murdoch and actor Don Johnson.
Ms. Steel, 49, said she wrote her most recent book, "The Klone and I," as a Christmas gift to Perkins. She has seven children and two stepchildren.
Perkins, 65, who has two grown children, helped found Genentech, Compaq and Tandem Computers.
