The Chautauqua County Legislature will establish an Agriculture Task Force to look into issues concerning farmers, including a decline in the number of dairy farms in recent years.

The Legislature's Agriculture and Economic Development Committee Monday agreed to add three lawmakers who are also farmers to the panel: Bruce Kidder, R-Busti; Fred Croscut, R-Sherman, and Leon Beightol, D-Ellington.

Committee Chairwoman Maria Kindberg said, "This group will be looking at the obstacles facing agriculture in Chautauqua County and how we can best address them. Farming is one of our primary industries, and we need to do what we can to foster a better environment for agriculture."
