Rose Poupart, found dead on the kitchen floor of her Linwood Avenue home Monday night, was the victim of a homicide, Niagara County Coroner James Joyce said Tuesday.
Mrs. Poupart, 84, said "was beaten to death," said Joyce, who conducted an autopsy Tuesday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
"She suffered a fractured upper jaw, a fractured larynx, lacerations to the back of the head and contusions to the head," Joyce said. "She died from head injuries.
"It's really a strange case," Joyce added. "There was no sign of a struggle. . . . The place looked clean."
Detectives said it did not appear anything was stolen. Family members indicated money in the house was untouched.
Mrs. Poupart's body was found at 7 p.m. in her home at 717 Linwood. Joyce estimated she was killed sometime in the early afternoon.
A neighbor, James Greene, spotted the body when he peered into the kitchen windows after another neighbor, John Cruz, became suspicious.
