CAMBODIAN LEADER REFUSES TO MEET DEPOSED PRINCE

Crowds of cheering supporters flocked to see Prince Norodom Ranariddh, the deposed co-premier, Tuesday, but Cambodian leader Hun Sen refused to meet him. Ranariddh, who returned to Cambodia on Monday for his first visit since Hun Sen's July coup, was greeted with cheers from more than 2,000 people Tuesday at the headquarters of his royalist party.

Hun Sen aide Prak Sokhon said the Cambodian leader turned down the prince's request for a meeting to discuss the elections because he still is in mourning after the recent death of his mother.

Ranariddh said he received a message from Hun Sen, relayed through the U.N. special representative to Cambodia, saying that he would be prepared to meet in early May.
