AMHERST DUE $325,000 IN STATE REIMBURSEMENT

New York State will reimburse Amherst $325,000 for a drainage project in Snyder scheduled to begin in late summer.

Town Supervisor Susan J. Grelick said the money will cover part of the cost of installing a storm sewer on Lakewood Parkway.

The storm sewer is needed to relieve chronic flooding at intersections in the neighborhood, said Town Engineer Paul M. Bowers.

Overall, the project is estimated to cost $890,000, Bowers said.

Amherst will borrow money to pay the whole cost of the project, and then the town will receive $325,000 from the state Department of Transportation's Multi-Modal Program to offset part of the cost.

The new sewer will be installed along a stretch of Lakewood Parkway near Northledge Drive as the town seeks to reduce storm runoff from Burbank, Sargent and Smallwood drives, Bowers said.

The town will seek bids from contractors in May or June,
Ms. Grelick said.
