I am writing in response to the recent shooting spree outside a school in Jonesboro, Ark., that left five people dead and 10 others injured. I know this letter will prompt a flood of responses, but I cannot understand why our nation will not wake up and do what is needed.
All guns, not just handguns, need to be outlawed. The police are the only people who need weapons. How many more children and young adults have to shed their blood before we stop catering to special-interest groups? The National Rifle Association should be ashamed of itself.
As the father of two small children, I would love to see this nation unite and make it a safe place for our children -- who are our future -- to be raised, not cut down with so much disregard for their lives.
