Walter Walas Sr., a longtime Vanadium Co. employee and a Town of Wilson farmer, died Sunday (March 29, 1998) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness.
Walas, 90, of Pretoria Street, was born in Buffalo and moved to Poland with his family as a child and attended schools there. He moved to Niagara Falls when he was 21.
He worked for 31 years at the former Vanadium plant in Niagara Falls and also worked for 29 years on his farm in Wilson. He moved back to the Niagara Falls area from Wilson in 1981.
He enjoyed carpentry.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, the former Bernice Zygmont; two sons, Lawrence S. and Walter Jr.; a daughter, Loretta Sieracki of Poland, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 2437 Niagara St. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston.
