The Erie County Sheriff's Deparment and local law enforcement officials are looking for an inmate who was mistakenly released Monday from the downtown Holding Center because he has the same name as a man who posted bail.
Mary Murray, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Department, said Victor Rivera-Sosa, 35, of 487 Busti Ave. is being sought as an escapee. Sosa was arrested Saturday on felony and misdemeanor drug charges. He left the holding center at 7 p.m. Monday. Sosa is not considered to be violent, but if he is spotted, the police or Sheriff's Department should be contacted, Undersheriff Timothy Howard said.
Ms. Murray said the reason for the release mix-up is still under investigation but may have involved confusion when the inmate's property was returned. Meanwhile, the Sosa who made bail is still at the holding center. The charges against him and the amount of bail that was posted were not immediately available Monday night.
