Citizens and businesses who have helped Buffalo police fight crime and assist the needy will be honored Wednesday during the third annual Citizen Appreciation Award ceremony.
The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in the Academy at Police Headquarters.
The honorees were nominated by police officers. In the past, citizens and businesses have been cited for donating toys and clothing for children, for repairing bicycles and other equipment used by officers and for helping to catch criminals.
"One of our department's most valuable resources," Police Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske said, "is this corps of volunteers who devote thousands of hours of community service and assist us by staffing a COPS satellite or serving on the youth and police committees or organizing the Police Explorers. They deserve much credit for the success of this department's fight against crime."
