The opening of the new Lakewood post office, postponed since last November, finally came Monday.
The 6,000-square-foot building was originally scheduled to open last fall, but work on the parking lot and the outside of the structure was delayed by cold temperatures.
Lakewood Postmaster Dale Long said the new building at the corner of Fairmount and Chautauqua avenues houses 600 post office boxes, nearly doubled the number in the old location.
"We will get a copier, and we will have a 24-hour lobby," he said. "A stamp vending machine will be installed, and once everything is in place, we believe it will be very nice."
Long also said office hours may be expanded for further convenience.
