Michael J. Fischer, an associate professor of accounting at St. Bonaventure University, has been named dean of the university's School of Business.
He succeeds John Burns, dean of the business school since 1991, who resigned recently for health reasons.
Fischer, whose appointment is effective immediately, is a certified public accountant. He was an audit manager for the international firm of Price Waterhouse before joining the St. Bonaventure faculty in 1985.
From 1988 to 1992, he was on leave from the university to complete his doctorate in accounting at Pennsylvania State University.
Recently named to the editorial board of Accounting Education: A Journal of Theory, Practice and Research, Fischer has also served as director of the MBA program, chairman of the accounting department, and dean of enrollment management at St. Bonaventure.
