DONALD N. VAN SON, RETIRED CONTRACTOR

Retired contractor Donald N. Van Son died Monday (March 30, 1998) in Genesee Memorial Hospital after an unexpected illness. He was 67.

He served as president of the N.H. Van Son Construction Co. of Alexander.

An Attica Central School graduate, he studied business at Alfred State College and Denver University and real estate at Genesee Community College.

Van Son served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

He joined Attica Lodge 462, F&AM, in 1957 and was lodge master in 1963 and had been treasurer since 1989. He was deputy grand master of the Genesee/Wyoming Masonic District in 1978. He also was a member of Wyoming Chapter 181, Royal Arch Masons, and Nundawaga Council 92, Royal and Select Masters.

Van Son was a co-founder and past president of the Attica Tri-Fraternal Association, made up of Masons, Odd Fellows and Knights of Columbus. In addition, he was a charter member and past president of both the Attica Jaycees and Attica Youth Athletics.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former JoAnn Patterson; four sons, Stephen of Webster, Richard of Batavia, and Timothy and Christopher; a brother, John R. of Southlake, Texas; two sisters, Ruth V. Langdon of Warsaw and Carole Pope of Overland Park, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in West Middlebury Baptist Church, East Bethany. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
