Walter Lewchuk, 62, retired district manager of the Social Security office in Buffalo, died unexpectedly Friday (March 27, 1998) in his Hamburg home.
The Lackawanna native earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Canisius College. He worked for the Social Security Administration for 31 years, retiring in 1992. For 16 years, he was district manager of the Buffalo office.
He was active in St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Parish Council. He also was a tireless worker for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, provided transportation for members of the vocational staff at the elementary school, worked at church functions and provided generous support to the building fund.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, the former Helen L. Lang; a daughter, Michele Clark of Hamburg; and three sisters, Helen Renzi and Ann Bodnar, both of Lackawanna, and Roz Giardini of Buffalo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary of the Lake Church,S-4737 Lake Shore Road, Town of Hamburg, after prayers at 9:15 in Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home, S-4199 Lake Shore Road, Town of Hamburg. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Town of Hamburg.
