New York City Council Speaker Peter F. Vallone was to receive a major boost to his campaign for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination today, with Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan scheduled to endorse his candidacy in Buffalo.

Vallone, a longtime Moynihan friend and confidant, was to appear with the senator at the Trico Products plant on Ellicott Street to highlight his plan for job creation in the state. Trico officials recently announced that more jobs may be leaving the area.

Vallone supporters are heralding the Moynihan endorsement as a major development, one that would appeal to voters with strong Democratic beliefs.

"We're pleased to get this early and strong endorsement from one of the state's real Democrats," said Vallone campaign spokesman Kevin McCabe.
