A man was arrested Sunday and charged with falsely denying involvement in a Saturday accident involving Niagara County Coroner Kenneth V. Lederhouse, Deputy Timothy E. Callaghan said.
Joseph A. Marotta, 21, of 119 Roosevelt Drive was charged with making a punishable false statement, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operated, leaving the scene of an accident, and following too closely.
Callaghan said Marotta's car rear-ended Lederhouse's motorcycle at 2:24 p.m. Saturday at Cold Springs and North Canal roads, and left the scene after stopping briefly. Lederhouse's wife Lauren got the license plate number, however. She was a passenger on the motorcycle, and was treated for a back injury in Lockport Memorial
Callaghan said Marotta was located Saturday night by Deputy James K. Hildreth, who obtained a written statement in which Marotta and his girlfriend both said he was not involved in the crash.
Marotta was reinterviewed at 10 a.m. Sunday and at first stuck to his story.
But after deputies examined the car and found some paint chips and plastic fragments in the grille, Callaghan said Marotta confessed and was arrested.
