Four consecutive years of property-tax cuts while downsizing village government has earned Depew Mayor Robert Kucewicz the AM-POL Eagle's Man of the Year Award in
Politics. Kucewicz, who has served as Depew's mayor since March 1995, was recently honored by the organization during a dinner at the Polish Falcon's Club in Depew.
"I was excited to get it," Kucewicz said. "It's a real nice award. We were ahead of the game in regionalizing by merging some activities nearly four years ago."
Kucewicz has succeeded in having neighboring towns take over several activities in the village, including property-assessing functions, as a cost-cutting measure. The idea became the focal point of the 1995 village election, which helped gain Kucewicz his mayoral post and his party the Village Board majority.
