Town Dog Control Officer Martha Sherman is investigating the discovery Friday of the skeleton of a dog with a chain attached to it inside a doghouse on Quaker Road.

Niagara County Sheriff's Deputy James Haight said he and Ms. Sherman went to the Quaker Road address after they received a complaint of possible animal cruelty there.

Nobody was home, and some dogs could be seen inside the house, but nothing was observed that would justify making an arrest, he said.

After examining the skeleton, Haight said it was obvious that a long time had elapsed since the dog had died, adding that it could have died a natural death.
