The Rev. Thurber Reuben Thayer, 94, a retired minister with the Genesee Conference of the Free Methodist Church, died Thursday (March 26, 1998) in Heritage Skilled Nursing Center, Gerry.
Mr. Thayer, a native of Newstead, graduated from Akron High School in 1922 and attended the former Chesboro Seminary, now Roberts Wesleyan College, in Rochester.
After graduating from Greenville College in Illinois, he taught school in Evansville, Ind., and public schools in Western New York during his 50 years of active ministry.
Mr. Thayer was pastor of Salamanca Free Methodist Church three times and was a supply pastor for other churches after his retirement.
He was a member of Akron Free Methodist Church for more than 30 years.
He was statistician and historian for the Free Methodist Churches.
He was a member of the Western New York Genealogical Society and Akron Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Mae Harter of Canisteo and Ruth L. Marzolf of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a son, the Rev. George A. of Ellicottville; 12 grandchil-dren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today in Akron Free Methodist Church, Scotland Road, Akron. Burial will be in Ledge Lawn Cemetery, Akron.[hdkns]
