In light of recent letters to this column regarding St. Joseph Collegiate Institute's basketball coach, Tim Lennon, I would like to offer the following story:
After our recent, hard-fought, double-overtime victory against St. Joe's in the Manhattan Cup semifinals, coach Lennon came into our locker room and congratulated our kids, complimenting them on their effort and wishing them luck in the finals.
Anyone who has played or coached knows how difficult it is to say anything after such an emotionally charged game, let alone give a speech to the winning team as they are celebrating at your team's expense. Coach Lennon provided our kids with a shining example of class and sportsmanship.
So, I have a message to the St. Joe's parents, alumni and administration: Be proud of your coach and your program. They represent you well.
