A Mercedes Benz that once belonged to the Beatles' John Lennon is among the 500 classic automobiles that will be featured at the Toronto '98 Spring Classic Car Auction Friday through next Sunday at the International Centre, 6900 Airport Road, Mississauga.
Lennon purchased the 1979 Mercedes 300D to transport his guitars and other equipment to recording studios in New York City for the production of his "Double Fantasy" album. The car, which Lennon owned at the time of his death, has 13,000 on it and is estimated to be worth $100,000 to $125,000.
The sale starts at noon Friday and at 9 a.m. Saturday and next Sunday. Other cars to be put on the block include a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle, 1997 Plymouth Prowler, a 1958 Chevrolet Impala 348 Convertible, a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette and a 1968 Shelby GT500.
