After two years on the drawing board, the Cross Roads Farm and Craft Market will become a reality this spring.

Two buildings have been constructed on the 22-acre site on the Westfield-Sherman Road where Mark Pouthier and associates are creating their own "field of dreams."

"We are basing this on the Windmill market in Penn Yan, which now attracts more than 200 vendors," he said. "They are all small entrepreneurs like farmers, produce people, crafters, fruit growers, artisans. The idea is that this will create jobs and small business in Chautauqua County."

Pouthier said the target date for opening is May 2.

About 30 vendors already are lined up to sell their wares at the market each Saturday from the first weekend in May through the second weekend in December, with additional days for holidays.

"The Windmill Market has about 10,000 visitors every weekend that they're open. We anticipate growing to that stage in approximately five years, and we think this area can easily support that size of market," he added.

Pouthier said the market is in a rural setting but is just 6 miles from a Thruway interchange and eight miles from the Southern Tier Expressway interchange at Sherman.
