Breaking the record high during the last few days of March probably wasn't on the minds of most area residents.
They came out to skate and jog in Delaware Park, rake leaves and debris covered by snowfall only days ago and generally enjoy a warm but windy day that teased everyone with the promise of spring that arrived officially a week before.
The record for a March 27, set in 1989, was 75 degrees. Joe Pace, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Friday's high was five degrees short, at 70.
The record for today is 77 degrees, set in 1945. Pace said with showers on the way, it is doubtful that today's record will be broken.
