Niagara County's application for designation as an All America City and Community for 1998 was filed in time to meet Thursday's deadline, according to Michael Casale, chairman of the Mighty Niagara All America City & Community Award Committee.
The volunteer committee just barely managed to raise the $575 application fee, Casale said. Now, it is aiming for $32,000, the amount the committee believes it needs to send a representative contingent to Mobile, Ala., June 18-20. If Niagara County makes the finals again this year, local representatives will make a presentation on those dates to a 12-member jury of the National Civic League. The 10 All America City winners will be announced June 20 in Mobile.
The All America City Screening Committee will meet in mid-April in Denver, Colo., and the finalist communities will be announced April 20. Niagara County was among the finalists for the All America
designation in 1997.
