WOMAN HELD FOLLOWING ESCAPE TRY

A Town of Busti woman was sent to Chautauqua County Jail Wednesday morning after she tried to flee sheriff's officers while being booked on drunken-driving charges.

Deputies tried to pull over a car that was driving on the shoulder of East Main Street shortly before 3 a.m. At first the driver refused to stop, but Mary Lou Johnson, 52, of Busti-Sugar Grove Road finally stopped after a short pursuit.

She was booked at Town of Ellicott Police Department a short time later, when she ran, police said. Ms. Johnson was recaptured and charged with felony driving while intoxicated, failure to comply and second-degree escape, police added.
